The exact steps for accessing the memory slots vary widely between laptop and mini PC models. Always refer to your device's specific service manual or an online guide for your exact model. However, here are the general steps:

1. Access the Memory Slots:
   • Locate Access Panel/Screws: For laptops, this often involves unscrewing a bottom panel or the entire bottom cover. Mini PCs may have a similar bottom or side panel.
   • Carefully Open the Device: Use your screwdriver to remove all necessary screws. If there are plastic clips, gently use a plastic pry tool to unclip them. Work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the casing.
   • Identify SODIMM Slots: Once opened, locate the SODIMM slots. They are typically shorter than desktop DIMM slots and are often stacked (one on top of the other). Each slot has small metal retention clips on its sides.
2. Remove Existing SODIMM (if replacing):
   • If you're replacing existing RAM, gently push the two metal retention clips on either side of the SODIMM module outwards. The module will "pop up" slightly at a 45-degree angle.
   • Once popped up, carefully slide the module straight out from the slot. Avoid pulling upwards directly.
   • If there are stacked modules, remove the top one first, then the bottom one. Store removed modules in an anti-static bag.
3. Install the New SODIMM Module(s):
   • Handle with Care: Hold the new SODIMM module by its edges, avoiding contact with the gold connector pins.
   • Align the Notch: Look for the small notch on the gold edge of the SODIMM module. This notch must align with the corresponding ridge in the memory slot. This ensures the module is inserted in the correct orientation.
   • Insert at an Angle: With the notch aligned, gently slide the SODIMM module into the slot at approximately a 45-degree angle. Push it firmly until the gold contacts are almost entirely concealed within the slot.
   • Press Down to Lock: Once fully inserted at the angle, gently but firmly push the module downwards until it lays flat. The metal retention clips on the sides of the slot should automatically snap into place, locking the module securely. You should hear a soft "click" sound.
   • Verify Secure Installation: Ensure the module is lying flat and both clips have engaged firmly. The gold contacts should be barely visible, if at all. If it's tilted or not locked, gently unclip and re-insert.
   • Install Second Module (if applicable): If you have a second module for dual-channel, install it in the other slot, ensuring it's the correct slot for dual-channel operation as per your manual.
4. Reassemble and Power On:
   • Once all memory modules are securely installed, reconnect the internal battery cable (if you disconnected it earlier).
   • Carefully replace the bottom cover or access panel, ensuring all screws are reinstalled and tightened appropriately.
   • Reconnect the power adapter (and reinsert the battery if it was removable).
   • Power on your device.
